The weather is finally softening! This is the opportunity to get a new look at the end of winter thanks to a little trip to France. But where to go in April? Here are some getaway ideas that should help you get in shape and take your mind off things.
Where to go in April to sunbathe?
If you love the great outdoors, take a short break in the Bay of Somme to enjoy the Picardy coastline and its superb beaches and unspoiled landscapes. Meet at Quend, a huge, uncrowded beach. The 15 km long sandy beach is so vast that you can put your towel wherever you want. In Quend-plage, there are many activities: it is, for example, the ideal place to discover sand yachting or horseback riding on the back of Henson, the typical horse of the Bay of Somme.
April is also the right time to spend a holiday in the Var by the Mediterranean Sea. The weather is good and there are still few tourists.
We recommend the beaches of the Giens peninsula in Hyères first . It is a superb wild and unspoiled peninsula, surrounded by nature, with beaches with crystal clear waters that really make you think of the Caribbean. There are beaches for the whole family like those of La Capte or Badine with calm shallow waters, perfect for children. The more athletic will prefer the beaches more exposed to the winds where we practice a lot of water sports such as Almanarre for example.
Where to go in April for a city trip to decompress?
Only 1.5 hours by train from Paris, Amiens is the ideal destination for an exotic weekend. The alleys of the Saint-Leu district with their shops and cafes, the canals with their floating markets, the famous hortillonnages, are all attractions of this city bathed by the Somme on the banks of which it is good to walk. Amiens is also of great heritage wealth, the emblem of which is the Gothic Notre-Dame cathedral and the neighboring belfry.
Reims is also a very pretty city to discover in spring. Endowed with an impressive historical heritage, the city is marked by a millennium of royal coronations in its famous cathedral which is a must in the city. On site, you can also taste Reims gastronomic specialties renowned around the world and, of course, discover wine tourism activities around champagne. Under the city hides in particular an impressive network of 120 km of cellars, veritable underground cathedrals of which the most remarkable example remains the Crayères of the Sainte-Nicaise hill, listed as World Heritage by Unesco.
Where to go to immerse yourself in nature?
For a change of scenery, we recommend the Hautes-Pyrénées which are a concentrate of nature in its purest form! This department of Occitanie indeed has a multitude of preserved natural sites: the cirque of Gavarnie listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Pic du Midi which offers a splendid panorama of the Pyrenees, or the Néouvielle Reserve in 70 lakes with turquoise water.
And if you like to pedal, we advise you to take a walk on the road which goes from Mont Saint-Michel to Roscoff and will make you discover mythical cities and superb coasts. Impossible to tire of this route where you can visit unmissable places of Brittany such as Saint-Malo, Dinard, Cap Frehel, the Bay of Saint-Brieuc, the Côte de Granit Rose, the bay of Morlaix …
